AlterNet: Venezuela, Ethopia and conflict zones in need of UNFPA’s attention

Two crises broke out while the delegates were too fixated on the medical facilities outside conflict zones. The delegates aim to help women and children in conflict zone.

“We need funds”

“We need people”

There are various needs for various countries facing this issue. Can UNFPA meet all these needs? Does money really make the world go round? Let’s see how it can aid this issue. According to a statement Yemen released to AlterNet, “Yemen would like to appeal to other countries to provide unearmarked funding to UNFPA to give us the flexibility to direct funds to countries in need like Yemen, Somalia, Chile, Syria, Ethopia et cetera.” Yemen pushes for solutions that fund the increase in sanitation and medical resources in the above 4 countries. The delegate sees the importance of essential nutrition to infants, in such a crucial developmental stage of their lives, as well as quality sleep environment. These can only be achieved with more funding.

South Sudan stands strongly for the provision of medical aid and protection for women and children in refugee camps. In the unmoderated caucus, the delegate has emphasised on providing aid real time, to treat diseases while they are infecting the patients.

The council attempts to make progress, while two crises broke out.

First was an African racial crisis. An attacker armed with a gun barged into the council room. Pointing his gun at everyone including the chairs, he shouted “Are you Oromo? Are you Oromo?” A Cambodian delegate claimed to be Oromo and was instantly shot dead. This man carried with him his hatred against the Oromo ethnic group, and would kill anyone who claims to be Oromo, regardless of their actual identity. The Somali military man has also threatened to burn the council room down, to remove all traces of the Oromo ethnic group.

3.7 million Ethopians have been displaced due to this crisis, and they seek refuge in neighbouring countries. This is thankfully due to the porous borders of the neighbouring countries that these 3.7 million people can find a safer place to live in. After all, seeking refuge is a human right. Along the streets of Ethopia, “There's more violence here everyday, even in broad daylight. Children are getting beaten, people pulled into caravans.” The citizens say traffickers told them that "Our wives and children are going to somewhere better". They know that “They're(those who have been trafficked are) never coming back”

The second crisis was in Venezuela. Juan Guaido has been assassinated by Maduro. As Maduro usurps power, he also takes down people who were under Guaido to cleanse Venezuela of the previous leader. The city has been in the trenches of economic crisis, and now there are fights and street protests. More than 2000 citizens have sustained serious injuries whole 320 people are dead. Initially 300k Venezuelan citizens have managed to escape this mess of a country. 300000 compared to 32 million is a small number” the delegate of Cambodia neglects the fact that we live in a dynamic world where things change every day. The number of refugees rise exponentially and people unhappy with Maduro grow strong, getting ready to kick this incapable president out of office. The number has increased to 1.5 million, on top of the 4 million who have previously left this country. “

Some citizens have sought refuge in Peru. However, due to competition with locals for food, money and jobs, the citizens of Peru are very unhappy about this situation and push these refuges back. Besides Peru, the refuges receive mistreatment in USA. Right-wing activists in USA have set fire to the tents containing the possessions of the refugees. Now the refugees truly lose all that they have.

"Refugees" are not actual refugees but "refugees" by choice, like those Migrating to Canada when Trump became president", according to a statement released by Cambodia.vIs it not our human right to see refuge to escape a miserable existence?

Another political actor came in, shouting "MADURO, MADURO, WE WANT MADURO OUT." even the richer people suffer and protest "even the trash has no food"

"Mazula was the rightful president", delegate of Cambodia insists to avoid solving this crisis. How could you ignore people's suffering? Status quo, here we go.

UNFPA has done little to resolve these crisis for a long time in council, besides a mere suggestion to “Increase security within Ethopia” followed by the refute where delegates realise that UNFPA does not have to powers to do so.

There were two suggestions that made sense, which were brought up to council. USA suggested for UNFPA to collaborate with NGOs and other country government to accept more refuges and help those countries accept more, while Ukraine suggested supporting mobile clinics to help people in conflict zones.
