When arguing about healthcare, who benefits?
“No one does the righteous thing. Everyone does the profitable thing. And if they're doing the right thing, it must be profitable.” Even in a good thing, there will be a motive behind it that benefits them. This is why it is slightly hard to take the government to be good people. What is considered right in society? Certain countries may favor economic development, others may favor social development. These differences are what cause us to have these council sessions and debates. And in these debates, we get to learn more about a country and its ideology. This is why during UNFPA’s debate it was shocking to see that many delegates were fighting over which type of healthcare to provide to those in conflict zones. Imagine living on a dollar salary every day. When more than half of your country is doing that, of course, poverty is an important issue for you. Now imagine that your country has women who experience sexual or gender-based violence daily. Then definitely women's rights would be paramount to you. Instead of just agreeing on one issue and tackling the other later, our delegates fought over which was more important. Both are equally important and should be tackled. Not fought over. This itself wasted quite some time and time is very very precious in these scenarios. Some delegates also spent time joking around during unmods which was quite unprofessional and insensitive to those out there who actually have to live through these tortures. Hopefully, tomorrow the delegates handle themselves a little more diligently and reach a consensus through resolve.
