The delegate of Germany disagrees with the commercialisation of space, strongly upsetting the fellow delegates along with Russia
The delegate of Germany firmly stated that in his opinion it seems that, there is little difference between commercialisation and communism of space. The delegate of Germany exclaimed in his opening address that “All of us here mentioned very rightly that Space is very big, and Space has a lot of stuff”. This is “stuff that must be cleared” he added. The delegate attracted plenty of attention and criticism by his usage of vocabulary and language; during the end of the council session the delegate also offensively commented on the relation of the Russian delegate to communism.
The delegate hinted on the privatisation of space being directly related to communism and the power that would be given to developed countries while the rest (developing countries) suffer due to their lack of resources is unjust, however, ironically, is a developed country due to both a thriving economy and a high quality of life for its residents. The delegate of Russia dismissed the comment and clarified that its is Germany which needs to understand the definition of privatisation and commercialisation and emphasised on the importance of Germany’s understanding on the difference between communism and commercialisation. Other delegates like China and Brazil also expressed their agreement in the solutions and action-plan presented by the delegates of Russia(not only in the unmoderated caucus but also in their speeches in the general speaker’s list as well as the moderated caucus introduced by the delegate of Russia and France.
Moreover, the delegate of China also presented her stance on space exploration; in her opinion, it is important that“countries exploit space when its available”,to optimise its use to humanity. China also plans on sending AI to the space, and expressed their strong desire to do the same via a working paper that was made available for all delegates during the council session.
Private organisations such as SpaceX and Orbital ATF, expressed their desires to collaborate with the state governments to be optimally able to utilise outer space to mankind’s benefit. The delegate of Orbital ATF added that “being in a position at which it is a great influence on outer space usage”, it is in the position to discuss the various actions that can be taken regarding the same. Correspondingly, in the opinion of the delegate of SpaceX public and private collaboration would be of great advantage to their space research-mainly in regards with the funding. It also extended to offer its expertise and technology to the governments for exploration(aligning exactly with the appeal of the delegate of Russia).
