Islamic Republic News Agency: UNCOPUOS Stands United Once Again, a Major Victory for All Nations

The UNCOPUOS delegates have finally put their differences and disagreements behind and pushed for a united front to resolve the space debris crisis.

The UNCOPUOS convened this morning in the hopes of resolving the problem to the space debris which was brought to light after two satellites in earth’s orbit crashed into each other causing deadly space debris. This problem further escalated as additional satellites crashed due to the Kessler effect resulting in telecommunications across the world shutting down. This problem continued to escalate as delegates in the UNCOPUOS continued to have inefficient roundabout discussions causing major detrimental impacts to the productivity of council. Delegates from America, Russia,France and Germany, unwilling to back down, continued to propose impossible solutions to the very real and imminent threat, allowing for further damage to be done and leading council to delay the creation of a resolution.

By this time, the delegates of the UNCOPUOS had split into multiple opposing blocs that relentlessly critiqued their opponent’s proposed solutions resulting in the UNCOPUOS being in a deadlock with neither side willing to give. During this chaos, two resolutions were proposed by two opposing blocs of delegates but neither was accepted by the majority due to the inherent flaws and drawbacks of each resolution. The delegates of the USA and Germany were the most outspoken and adamant of each bloc with both blindly approving their own solutions and rejecting the other. Neither bloc was willing to give in to the compromises demanded by the other causing the council to stall and its momentum to be lost.

However, through all of the chaos and disagreements of the council, a pair of reporters from the International Press Gallery were able to move the council through their news articles which led to the unification of the entire council. The reporters of the IRNA and the KCNA present in council had previously published reports regarding the discord of the UNCOPUOS and it was these reports that the delegates read, resulting in calls for unification from numerous delegates. Delegates used the news articles as a rallying point to call for the unification of the opposing blocs in the council and also called for a merger and compromise of the two previously proposed resolutions. Even the delegates of the USA, Germany, Russia, and France, who were previously extremely stoic regarding the quality of their resolutions, gave in to the increasing cries for cooperation between nations. This resulted in the collapse of the two opposing blocs into one single unified bloc with a single purpose of resolving the crisis as efficiently, effectively and safely as possible. This unification of the blocs paved the way for greater collaboration between delegates with even delegates from rival nations such as the USA and China supporting the same solutions and proposals. This rallying call allowed the USA to finally put away its arrogant, elitist attitude and work towards cooperation for the good of all.

Ultimately, all of the UNCOPUOS discussions came to an end as a final, unified resolution was introduced to the council. This resolution saw support from not only the major DC players such as the USA and France but also from LDCs such as Egypt who until then had less opportunity to contribute to the conference. This new resolution saw tremendous success with all delegates voting for the resolution, passing it unanimously. This unprecedented action by the UNCOPUOS was truly significant and impactful as it signaled the end of useless competition and the start of fruitful cooperation and discussions.

The new, unified resolution included clauses such as one calling for the establishment of an international space body under the UNCOPUOS for all nations to provide support and also one that urges the establishment of a collaborative effort to clear space debris. These suggestions were a major step forward for the UNCOPUOS as they were now unified and cooperating in order to resolve the dire threat of space debris. Furthermore, previous problems such as the lack of participation and contribution from LDCs were resolved as under article 1 clause 2b of the resolution, LDCs would be able to play a greater role in contributing to the wellbeing of all nations. Furthermore, the potential threat of militarizing space debris clearing methods was safely avoided as delegates were able to have the foresight to plan ahead and include a clause addressing this issue.

Overall, due to the tremendous and persistent efforts of all delegates in the room, the crisis of space debris was able to be resolved with casualties and damages reduced to the minimum. Although the UNCOPUOS had a rough start, they were able to put aside their differences and work towards the common good of all people on our planet. The IRNA would like to congratulate all delegates present in the UNCOPUOS for finally uniting and resolving the crisis through a common push for resolve through consensus. The IRNA hopes that cooperative action by the UNCOPUOS would continue to ensure the safety and effective use of space by all nations.
