Buzzfeed: President Trump launches strike in retaliation to Boko Haram bombing.

President Donald Trump have retaliated to the bombings in Nigeria, ordering the military to launch 50 Tomahawk missiles towards Lake Chad.

Responsibility for the bombing has been claimed by the terrorist group Boko Haram. It has been reported that there have ten fatal casualties, with hundreds more critically wounded.

While the attack by Boko Haram has received universal condemnation from countries across the world, there have also been worldwide condemnation on the actions carried out by Pres. Trump. Massive protests have erupted in both Africa and across the United States.

After the Tomahawk attacks directed by President Trump, thousands more have been killed. This is in addition to acts Boko Haram have perpetrated in recent times, which include chemically poisoning Lake Chad in Northeast Nigeria, leading to thousands of local individuals falling ill.

The lake is a vital water source for 30 million people across four surrounding countries, and after the poisoning, a large portion of the locals have their water supplies compromised.

Addressing the United States Senate, National Security Advisor John Bolton exclaimed that the attack “is an explicit act of war against the US”. Director of the CIA Gina Haspel has also warned of another strike against another United States Embassy.

The Senate has been criticized for its lack of action regarding the bombing in Nigeria. Senators have been quarrelling about the extent of military power given to President Trump. Several Democratic senators have expressed concern at delegating a large degree of power to the President.

Boko Haram has proclaimed the establishment of their Islamic Caliphate following the attacks. The terrorist group, whose name means ‘Western education is forbidden’ in Arabic, has resurged in Nigeria recently after the Nigerian President announced that the group had been ‘technically defeated’ in December of 2015.

Meanwhile, Boko Haram will seemingly not stop in its goals of establishing a caliphate, no matter the amount of blood that would be shed.
