The delegate, later retracts her claims on the same during her following speech after she was faced by criticism from fellow delegates.

The Russian delegate also stated that the only plausible reason on the colossal interest shown by the delegate of United States in the matter is due to the dependance of the USA on oil exports from Nigeria, moreover The United States is the second largest foreign investor in Nigeria and has had a total of $1.3 billion capitol imported in 2017. The only statement the delegate of United States was able to make in defence(during the press conference) were that “USA does too believe in protecting the civilians of Nigeria and the oil exports are not the only driving forces and motivations for USA’s involvement and contribution to the matter”. The delegate added that a seize-fire seems to be the best option at the moment, however, the delegate mentioned that USA agrees with Germany’s ideas on clean energy(hydropower and solar energy) but feels that at hand, environmental problems aren’t the biggest issues. ”
The delegate also mentioned the implementation of the UN peacekeeping force as one of the immediate short-term action-plans to deal with the Nigeria Delta, however according to the delegates of South Africa, “The UN peace keeping force would be at a disadvantage due to the vast location of the delta”.
